At Wednesday, the UFC bantamweight learned he'd be receiving a $65, 000 "Submission with the Night" bonus for their victory over Johnny Bedford at UFC 159. The bonus was originally awarded to lightweight Pat Healy, but following on from the former Strikeforce title contender tested positive for medical marijuana in his post-fight drug test, "Bam Bam" was suspended for 90 days and stripped of her additional earnings.
Therefore, the UFC passed that fight night bonus check on to Caraway, who had the only real other submission victory relating to the card. The sudden turn involving luck was undoubtedly a bright spot with the 28-year-old, but the good vibes wouldn't last longer.
The Washington native chatted to MMA Junkie about receiving the bonus money. This is where important things went south. Rather than keeping the give attention to the bonus, Caraway veered off to a diatribe on his disapproval for marijuana as well as the people who use a drug.
"Kid Lightning's" comments relating to the topic immediately ruffled feathers in the MMA community, causing one fighter get hold of (Nate Diaz), to lash out by having a response of his own personal.
While Diaz's remarks formulated an uproar and evoked a suspension through the UFC, Caraway also took to Twitter to help promote explain his stance in the drug issue.
From her post on Twitter, seems like Caraway has some personal experience with the negative effects of drug use. While this experience is old, it was obviously something has impacted his life but they are still close to him.
Having said that, we very much live in a "to each their own" world at present. There is certainly nothing wrong with Caraway personally disapproving of the drug or its wearing, but as soon since you start pointing fingers and using labels to explain the people who decided to do a certain issue, then you are using judgmental position.
Whether Caraway was trying to get across a larger note isn't quite clear. But through the reaction his comments ignited on Twitter, it is clear that his opinion over the matter wasn't well received.
