Anchoring Suspend; Messy But Right.

It's now official; anchoring a putter is BANNED beginning January of 2016. I watched the presentation with the USGA executives just minutes ago and I believe they got it perfect. Logistically it was sloppy, but the reasoning was sound and the integrity of the game is actually maintained, unlike so all kinds of other sports.

I can only hope that this PGA will 'do the appropriate thing' and go along. They have always played with the Rules of Golf and additionally need to continue to take some action. Going their own way would tear the adventure to pieces. Golf is unique in its rules together with reliance on player reliability. The PGA would seriously undermine that when they go their possess way. The touring pros are a small group, but the foremost visible. They are management in technique, equipment and behavior. We emulate these individuals. Just think how a number of us still hitch up much of our pants because Arnie made it happen.

Some will say a rule is unfair, but fairness is always in the eye within the beholder. Golf is never about individuals, it's approximately something must bigger; a pair of rules that golfers are expected to implement whoever they are and wherever they participate in. If your ball is out-of-bounds you are expected to take a penalty whether your fellow players find it or not. Without that integrity, golf would lose most of it's attraction. It's one of the few institutions today that implore us to remain our best selves.

The many controversy you hear with the coming days and weeks will happen primarily from the desire of news organizations to fill 24 hour reporting. 'Issues' are their life blood and they will try and milk every drop because of this they can – until something different bigger comes along. Then they'll drop it similar to a hot potato.

Keep planned that very few players actually use an anchored putting stroke – 2-4% of their golfers and 16% in the PGA Tour. How many long putters do you really see at your own course? Some won't as if it and they'll complain, forgetting that golf is bigger than anybody. How many of usa older players lost a stroke just because a ball fell of some tee after we only took our stance and ahead of swinging at it? We didn't love it, but those were the rules right at that moment.

Then there will become the self serving manufacturers who will complain because they put their particular financial interests prior to the integrity of the gameplay. They'll talk about it keeping people from taking over golf, but that's all internet marketing speak for 'we only worry about our bottom line'. Shame on them for trying to influence the principles.

I'm glad this issue has been decided, though it's not really behind us yet. Personally I'm anxious about trying to improve my personal game and watching one more three Majors. I possess a sneaking suspicion that they're about to be very memorable.
