In this essay, I wish to provide a persuasive case to argue that Samuel Etoao is the foremost African player of them all. The region has produced many fine sportsmen, a few of whom have surprised using their ability, and other people who have succeeded at the very pinnacle of the overall game. In creating this piece, I am discovering three facets of Etoaoas career; firstly his innate ability and capabilitiesa'assessing his qualities and his talents; subsequently, his membership career and accomplishments at this level; and finally, considering his contributions in the national colours of Cameroon, and evaluating his results on a worldwide basis. I recently wrote a similar item looking straight back over Didier Drogbaas career, and concluding that while Drogba was great, Etoao was greater. This summary received ire and criticism from some groups of Bleacher Reportas readership, but ideally this item will elucidate some of those naysayers and help my central thesis. Personal Potential Etoaoas currency is goals; there is no escaping it. While he probably canat match the likes of Abedi Pele and George Weah for technical prowess, his goal-scoring is extraordinary. The forward had an awe-inspiring purpose relation of just one every 1.6 games as recognized by Miguel Delaney of FootballPantheon.com (who placed Etoao in 64thAposition in his Greatest Players of all time list), between 2002 and 2011. Despite only playing for lowly RCD Mallorca for three years he's still, even today, the clubas all-time leading scorer, and remains eighthAon Barcelonaas all-time top goal-scorer number. In 2006, he included his name to an illustrious listing of Pichichi Trophy winners, enjoying Manhattan project Ligaas top scorers. Along with being a clinical finisher and positionally exceptional, Etoao has also long been conscious of the value of employed by the team work and the common good. Julian Finney/Getty Pictures This was never more obvious than in the 2010 Champions League final with Inter Milan, where he worked relentlessly, and with excellent control, towards the goals and objectives determined by Jose Mourinho. One warning is Etoaoas character, which has so often produced friction and has led to unwanted controversy. The achievement has usually papered over cracks active with teammates or administrators, but it is interesting to imagine maybe what a a bit more balance may have done for his job. Team Success No African person can come near to rivaling Samuel Etoao in terms of team achievements; indeed, the final 15 years spent in Europe have resulted in experts such as Firdose Moonda indicating he is aalready proven as Africaas best football export.a He is only the second player to have obtained in two Champions League finalsa'suggesting he's capable of flourishing at the top degree of the sport, and is among only four players to have won the prize on successive occasions with two different groups. Likewise, he is the very first person to get two trebles in major European leagues, reaching the remarkable feat with both Barcelona in 2009 and Internazionale in 2010. These results suggest that while Etoao could make the big benefits in the big gamesa'as he has done against former membership Real Madrid so often times over the yearsa'he has also attained his keep as an integral part of very successful factors over the length of overwhelmingly successful times. It's not only that Etoao has won these honours, he has won these honours while being truly a important figure in effective groups. His wide appeal and past successes have led to him being identified as the worldas highest-earning player, with an estimated A350,000-a-week deal with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. Global Achievement It is perhaps in the international world that Etoaoas best achievements and best disappointments arise. Evidently happy to be always a citizen of Africa, he's respected since the Africa Cup of Nationsa all-time top scorer. These objectives have led to two games for Cameroon, where they lay at the head of the nation in 2,000 and 2002. A gold medal was also picked up by him at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where the Indomitable Lions became only the 2nd African side to secure the top place on the podium in the sportas record. Whilst it was clear on his debuta'when still only 15---that Etoao would have a long future with the national area, few back then could have realised the amazing influence he'd have for the Indomitable Lions. Still only 32, he's the countryas all-time top scorer with 55 goals, and on 112 limits, sits only 25 behind Rigobert Song in the all-time appearance list. He has won the African Player of the Year award accurate documentation four times, eclipsing the likes of George Weah, Abedi Pele and Didier Drogba, and further honors include being African Young Player of the Year in 2,000, third position in FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005 and recognition in multiple and numerous ateams of the year.a He has also contributed to African football in other ways. His school, the Samuel Etoao Foundation, was set up in 2006 and attempts to improve consciousness concerning the issues facing West Africa, especially emphasizing the well-being of children. Through the foundation, the careers of various small soccer stars, including the likes of Jean Marie Dongou, Fabrice Olinga and Gael Etock have taken their first nascent methods in the game and have begun to learn the activity.
