Graham Dorrans seeks assurances on future at West Brom - expressandstar.com

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Graham Dorrans today admitted his Hawthorns future still hinges on his first-team chances.

The Scotland midfielder insisted he is happy to remain with the Baggies – but only if he is likely to be a regular starter. Dorrans asked to leave The Hawthorns before Christmas after sliding out of first-team contention but has since forced his way back into boss Steve Clarke's plans.

The 25-year-old said: "I did have a chat with the manager (before Christmas). Everybody wants to be playing and I wasn't playing as much as I would have liked.

Dorrans is likely to discuss his future again with Clarke at the end of the season. And the former Livingston man dismissed suggestions he wanted to return north of the border but admitted he is still likely to need assurances about his place in the head coach's plans.

"I need to wait and see," he said. "I will get through the next five games and see what the summer holds. But I'm playing every week so I'm quite happy at the moment.

"I just wanted to play football. It wasn't to move back to Scotland. Nothing has changed. My views were that I want to be playing every week and I've still got the same views. If I can do that I'm happy, if not then I'm not happy, just like anybody else."

Meanwhile, Dorrans revealed baby daughter Ava has recovered fully from the meningitis scare that hit the midfielder and wife Yvonne at the start of the season.

He looked set to start the season in the team, only to miss the final pre-season match at Nottingham Forest after rushing to Ava's bedside.

"She turns one in a couple of weeks and she's doing well," he said. "She's started walking and speaking now. She's had a couple of follow-up checks and everything has been fine so far. The whole experience was the worst thing you can imagine."
