Notre Dame performed theA84thAinstallmentAof their annual Blue-Gold spring sport. The overall game was, for the most part, uneventful, but one sudden positional battleAmay haveAemerged. Copy quarterback Tommy Rees' performance had anAunexpectedlyAstrong performance. The seasoned backupAquarterbackAactually upstaged his replacement,AsophomoreAEverett Golson. Golson has been the subject of much excitement in the weeks accumulating to the spring game. aI donat realize that you can even place him in the same group of where he started this past year to where heas at now,a Ahead coach Brian Kelly said toAFrank VitovitchAof UHND.com, regarding Golson's improvement in the offseason. However, that improvement did not manifest intoAsuccessAon the field, as Golson made freshman problems early in the game and threw a pick in the next quarter that set the tone for the relaxation of his time on the field. Rees, however, satisfied with hisAreliabilityAand strong arm. He avoided the interceptions that cost his starting position to him and led the group on a good 10-play drive. Could Rees'AsuccessAin the spring game cause him challenging incumbent quarterback Golson for the beginning spot? The simple answerAto that question is not any. A very important factor was clear, though. Golson is not yet ready to lead the Irish crime alone. Except Golson includes a development, expect to see Rees on the field this fall. Because the senior quarterback illustrates an awesome, collected presence in the pocket, It would alsoAbehooveAGolson to invest sometime in the film space with Rees while under fire that theAsophomoreAstarter still lacks.
