Spanish Open (Open delaware EspaAa )  History and Past Champions

The national championship of Spain, the Open delaware EspaAa is one of the earliest championships in golf. Founded in 1912, its list of winners incorporates such luminaries as Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Roberto de Vicenzo, and Padraig Harrington. Two Americans have won: Arnold Palmer (1975) and Jerry Heard (1974). The Spanish Open was one of the inaugural events on the European Tour in 1972. The 2013 edition is performed at the Parador de El Saler, which last hosted in 2001. The program is relatively small, relying on Mediterranean winds to provide a defense of its holes.
