Galatasaray 3 Real Madrid 2 match report: Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Eboue... - The Independent

True Madrid advanced to the past four despite a 3-2 defeat on the night time to a Galatasaray whose second-half recovery had Jose Mourinho's area in a panic. Already three targets up from the first leg at the Bernabeu, the link was apparently put to sleep by Cristiano Ronaldo's seventh-minute reach. But an Eboue thunderbolt after 57 minutes added Gala straight back stage on the night, before the home side is put by Wesley Sneijder ahead after 70 minutes. Seconds later Did Drogba paid off the aggregate deficit further and even though Real substitute Alvaro Arbeloa found red late on, Ronaldo notched his 2nd in damage time, as Madrid's pursuit of a European Cup continued. The visitors started quickly and only 3 minutes were on the clock when Fernando Muslera rashly came out to clear, his attempt slipping to Angel Di Maria, who shot wide. Four minutes later they were on the scoresheet. Sami Khedira was allowed to cross from the right and in came Ronaldo, who surely got to the ball before the home opponent to shoot past a powerless Muslera from three yards out. The link seemed done as a contest and Ronaldo could have doubled his night's tally minutes later once the home area backed down, but from 25 yards the Portuguese shot right at Muslera. Drogba went near transforming a Sneijder photo after 20 minutes in Gala's first important assault, before Madrid nearly went two-up. A delicious back-heel cross from Ronaldo played in Di Maria, but his angled effort was well tipped over by the Gala stopper. Mourinho was pushed in to his first change after 31 minutes when Michael Essien must be changed by Arbeloa because of leg injury. Sneijder required Diego Lopez in to his first save yourself after 38 minutes in what was a lacklustre first-half present from the hosts. Another chance was missed by madrid to get two up 11 minutes after the restart when Ronaldo somehow missed from seven yards out - scuffing his work with the ball trapped under his feet. Moments later and the house area were stage as a result of a tremendous purpose, albeit from an unlikely source. Sneijder's optimistic cutback found a strolling Eboue who from the edge of the field powered an unstoppable shot in to the top place. And only three minutes later they need to have gone forward. Drogba's strength caused all sorts of issues for the Actual defence with the ball falling to Sneijder. But with just Lopez to defeat and from 12 yards out he screwed his shot extensive of the far post. Eboue's purpose had, but, galvanised your home side and with the Ataturk Stadium strongly behind their side Gala got an earned lead. Sneijder showed a turn of pace more associated with his best days at Inter, nutmegged Rafael Varane before side-footing in to the corner. And moments later it had been 3-1 when Drogba got in-front of his opponent to show a corner into the part of the net. Raul Albiol changed Mesut Ozil as Mourinho seemed to arrest his team's slip, nevertheless they had to play out the ultimate moments with 10 men after Arbeloa found red after receiving a 2nd yellow card for dissent. There when Ronaldo obtained in injury time was still time for a purpose on the night.
