The Los Angeles Lakers were without Kobe Bryant Monday night for the next straight game, and they fell within an unpleasant contest to the Phoenix Suns, 99-76. With Bryant on the bench, this game belonged to Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in the opening period. The two mixed for 21 points in the very first 12 minutes, and it became clear that they will be the people putting points on the board from start to finish. When Nash and Howard left a floor for initially, Phoenix could reunite on course. The Lakers went only 2-of-9, and the Suns assembled a 14-4 run. This will show to be a common theme throughout, but the greater problema'as itas been a lot of the seasona'was protection. This time, the Lakers had bigger problems. The question became, how well might Nash perform without Kobe Bryant? Within the last two games, Nash had averaged 17 points, 10.5 helps and four boards. As all season has been seen by us, as he scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in the first quarter alone he came into that one as productive. Nash just gathered four helps on the night to go with his 19 things, but that had very little to complete with his decision-making. Along side trying to report, he was trying to obtain Dwight Howard included. The big man missed a number of efforts to open up the competition. The only real area where Nash really fought was security. He couldn't remain in front of Goran Dragic or Kendall Marshall in fast-break or half-court conditions, and poor shifts behind him led to easy containers for the Phoenix Suns. Grade: N Shooting Guard: Jodie Meeks Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports Jodie Meeks did not have one of his true most effective games against the Phoenix Suns, but you can't knock him for his aggressiveness. Despite firing just 3-of-9 on the night, Meeks was getting the opposition to the test with his willingness to attack the side. Whether in isolation units or backdoor reductions, the 6'4" guard was getting above the side, particularly early in the competition. On the glass, Meeks managed to bring down six rebounds in 33 minutes. In whilst the group was taking advantage of a smaller lineup, fact, no beginner had under five panels. As as Meeks ambitious was, it's safe to state that the Lakers is going to be jumping for joy when Kobe Bryant makes his return. Meeks' generation has not been anywhere near what L.A. needs to see, and if the staff has any hope of getting the No. 6 seed, it should rally behind its celebrity. Grade: C- Small Forward: Metta World Peace Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Activities Metta World Peace has already established plenty of quiet games this year, but this was one where he was making choices that hurt the group early. On numerous situations in the first quarter, the 33-year-old pushed images both in the color and on the border. In the game's first 12 minutes, he missed five of his six pictures, including all three from strong range. Firing was not the only place where World Peace was playing inefficiently. A number of negative travels generated unforced turnovers, and he'd three giveaways to go with his 5-of-17 shooting. World Peace tried to make up the big difference on defense. He was truly guilty of poor rotationsa'the whole team wasa'but he did have an impressive five steals on the night. Take the great with the poor in regards to World Peace, but recognize that his efforts on one side don't make up for his mistakes on another. Grade: C- Energy Forward: Earl Clark Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Activities Earl Clark kept quiet in the division. He put up just four items in thirty minutes, but everything you want to see may be the energy in different categories. Unlike those who were making poor decisions, Clark never did anything to harm this team's chances. He had a direct effect on the panels, grabbing 10, and the shots he missed were shots that simply did not falla'not shots he required. The issue was that we have seen him intensify in the past when his team needed it, and Monday never proved to be one of those times. You do not assume him to be theAsavior game in and game out, but only taking five images when the rest of the group is misfiring is definitely an easy way to get lost in the mix. Grade: C Center: Dwight Howard Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Activities Dwight Howard took five pictures in the initial three full minutes of the game, and while that's usually an excellent sign of things to come, an 0-of-5 start was not what Mike D'Antoni was hoping for. Regardless of the slow starting, Howard stayed aggressive. He got to the line, pulled down boards and the Lakers held as a for his efforts looking his way. By the finish of the very first quarter, Howard had collected 11 points on 11 photos and got six boards. Throughout the game, Howard held shooting, but he only managed to go 6-of-18 from the field. Steve Nash and the others of the guards held seeking his way, and while he made four out of five free-throw attempts, he was never a true intelligent selection. As you knew Howard could get his numbers from the Suns, the leading rebounder in the league. The center gathered 11 panels in the loss. Fortuitously for L.A., it was Steve Blake to the relief for the next game in a line. This game was entered by blake with confidence, and it showed. In his first 11 minutes, points were scored eight by him on 4-of-6 shooting, and he collected a steal and four helps to top things off. The part of his game is he went just 1-of-5 from deep range. The game was finished by him with 13 items and four assists. The sole other person to see significant time off the table was Antawn Jamison.
